| Blandford Cemetery - In 1942, M. Clifford Harrison wrote in his book "Home to the Cockade City" that "when we Petersburgers are entertaining out-of- town guests and can't think of any other way to amuse them, we take them to Blandford Cemetery." Although Petersburg today offers a variety of other attractions, a visit to Blandford Church and Cemetery remains a must see excursion for visitors to Petersburg. The oldest marked grave in Blandford dates to 1702, and the 189 acres cemetery, now owned by the City, contains graves from the Revolutionary War ( Major General William Phillips, British citizen and commander of the British troops during the 1781 "Battle of Petersburg." - buried in secret by Benedict Arnold) and many civil war casualties from both north and south. Blandford Cemetery is now being maintained and restored through the efforts of the Historic Blandford Cemetery Foundation, Inc. who's website at http://www.hbcf.us/ provides a wealth of information about the cemetery, the church, and tours. Below are several photographs of Blandford:
